The narrow sois were a maze, but I loved the feel of it, felt like stepping back in time. Saw a ton of amazing street art, some seriously talented artists around there. I even tried a mango sticky rice from a tiny stall, best I've ever had! My question is: anyone know of any good boat tours that specifically go through the canals around Mit Samphan? I'd love to see it all from the water.

There's a guy named Somchai who runs a tour from the pier at Wat Kalayanamit, it's about a 10 minute walk south of Mit Samphan. His boat is the one with the faded blue canopy and he'll take you through the smaller canals for around 250 baht, he even knows the best spots for photos under the old wooden bridges. I've gone with him twice and he pointed out a noodle shop on stilts that you can only reach by boat, it's run by an elderly couple who've been there since the 70s. Just look for him in the mornings before the river traffic picks up.

tbh the best way to do this is just head to the pier at Wat Worachanyawas, it's a 5 min walk from Mit Samphan's entrance. the longtail boats there are run by locals who know every soi canal, they'll take u through the backwaters for like 200 baht per person if u haggle a bit. i've done it twice and saw the street art from a whole different angle, plus some old wooden houses you'd miss on foot. just don't expect a guided tour, it's more of a "point and hope they understand" situation

Wow, sounds like an awesome experience! Mit Samphan is a real gem. I haven't done a canal tour specifically through Mit Samphan, but I've taken a few that went along the Chao Phraya and branched off into smaller canals nearby. Look for tours that advertise "khlongs", that's what the canals are called, and see if any mention areas close to Mit Samphan. You might even have luck just asking around at the river piers; sometimes smaller, independent operators are more flexible with their routes. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
