Spent the whole morning just trying to find the dang thing, seriously, the alleys around there are crazy! I'm staying in a guesthouse nearby and the owner even got a bit lost pointing me in the right direction. Anyway, I'm wondering, are there any really cool things to find hidden in those tiny side streets around Sirisuk? I'm talking secret street food stalls, tiny shrines, anything really. It feels like an entire world is tucked away in those alleys. Think I'll spend the rest of my trip exploring them

honestly the best thing about those sois around sirisuk is how they change character block by block. one minute ur walking past a guy fixing motorbikes on the street, next minute theres this old lady selling the best grilled pork skewers ive ever had from a cart thats been there like 30 years. i found this tiny soi off soi petchburi 15 that has like five different street food stalls crammed into a space smaller than my apartment kitchen. the green curry at the third one is unreal. also keep an eye out for the faded wooden signs on some of the older shophouses, theyre usually for places that have been there since the 60s. just follow the smell of charcoal and fish sauce

one thing nobody's mentioned yet is the hidden soi cats. not the stray dogs everyone talks about but the actual cat colonies that hang around certain shophouses. there's this one alley behind sirisuk where like eight cats just own a whole section of sidewalk, they've got little beds set up by the residents. i saw a monk feeding them one morning which was pretty surreal

also if you walk south toward the canal you'll find this tiny soi that dead ends at a community garden. it's not on any map, just a gap between two buildings with some jasmine vines and old ladies tending chillis. feels like you stepped into rural thailand for a second

fwiw the best time to hit those alleys is right before sunset, like 5ish. the light gets all golden and the food stalls start firing up their grills, plus the heat finally drops a bit. there's a guy who fixes vintage watches from a folding table near soi 16, he's been doing it for 40 years and will just chat with u while he works. also watch out for the stray dogs that guard certain corners, they're friendly but they've got their territories mapped out better than google maps

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
