Bangkok Uni Food Scene?

I heard the university canteen is okay, but are there any hidden gems, like really good street food stalls, or maybe small family-run restaurants, that students frequent? I'm a total foodie and want to experience some authentic Thai eats, not just the usual tourist traps. My last uni had amazing food options, let's hope this one lives up to it...

honestly you're in a good spot for foodies, the area around Bansomdej has some legit street food that tourists never find. walk down Soi Charoen Nakhon 38 after 5pm, there's this lady who makes the best khao mok gai (Thai biryani) for like 40 baht, her stall's always packed with students. also try the small muslim restaurant on Soi 31, family-run for decades, their massaman curry is unreal and they'll prob remember your face after a couple visits. skip the main road chains and just follow the crowds of students in uniform, they know where the real deals are

fwiw the best food near Bansomdej isn't even on the main roads, it's the stalls that set up around the back gate on Soi Phet Kasem 63 around 6pm. there's a guy who does grilled pork skewers with this sticky tamarind sauce that's stupid good, 10 baht each and he's there every night rain or shine. also the khao man gai place on the corner of Soi 65 is run by this older couple who've been there since the 90s, their chicken is super tender and they give you a massive portion of rice for 50 baht. just bring cash, most of these spots don't take scan

The uni canteen's alright for a quick bite, but you'll find way better stuff just wandering around. Tons of smaller places pop up near Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat, look for the areas with lots of students hanging out after classes. Seriously, the best food is often found down those tiny soi (side streets). Don't be afraid to try places that look busy, even if they're not fancy. You'll stumble across some amazing, cheap eats that way. Also, check out some food delivery apps popular in @Bangkok, they often show smaller, local spots you might miss otherwise.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about using food delivery apps to find hidden...well, not hidden, but less-obvious places. I'm usually pretty adventurous with street food, but the idea of navigating those tiny soi after a long day of lectures is a bit daunting sometimes. Thanks for the tip on Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat too, I'll definitely check that area out. Sounds like a good bet for some authentic Thai food.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
