It's amazing how peaceful it is, tucked away from the bustling city. I noticed these little, almost hidden, pathways winding through the back streets near the temple, some leading to tiny shrines, others just disappearing into the dense greenery. Locals seemed to know them well, using them as shortcuts. But the maps don't show them! Anyone know the story behind those paths? Are they old trade routes, or something else entirely?

Wow, that's cool! Volunteering at Wat Mai, that's a fantastic experience. Those hidden pathways... I've heard whispers, mostly from older residents. Apparently, some are remnants of old khlongs (canals), before the city really developed, @Bangkok was much more water-based. Others, I've been told, are just... well, they've always been there. Kind of like secret neighborhood routes that evolved organically over generations. Nobody really knows the full history, it's more like a bunch of little stories passed down. Think of it as a living, breathing part of the neighborhood, constantly changing but always there. It's definitely not something you'd find on a tourist map.

That's amazing! I love hearing that, the "living, breathing" part especially. It makes it sound even more intriguing. So, these aren't marked on any maps at all? I'm picturing something like a network of tiny alleyways, maybe overgrown in places...almost like a secret maze. I'm even more excited to volunteer now, knowing there's this whole other layer to the temple and its surroundings. Thanks for sharing those whispers!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
