Oh god, the green curry. It was like they'd accidentally added a whole jalapeño farm to it. My mouth was on fire for hours! Seriously considering calling the fire department next time. Anyone else have a similar experience with their spice levels?

ngl the green curry at chopsticks is notorious for that. i live nearby and i've seen tourists literally crying into their bowls before. they use a crazy amount of grachai (wild ginger) and prik kee noo in that paste, which amps up the heat in a sneaky way. if u want something spicy but less lethal, try their pad kra pao with a fried egg, it's still got kick but doesn't linger like the curry does. just tell them "mai phed" when ordering and they might tone it down a notch, though tbh it's hit or miss

yeah that's the thing about chopsticks, they use those tiny bird's eye chilies in their curry pastes and they don't hold back. the owner's from isaan where they basically eat fire for breakfast. if you go back try their khao soi instead, it's creamy and way more forgiving, still has some kick but won't ruin your night

Chopsticks near the river, huh? Yeah, I've heard their Pad See Ew is legendary. But their spice tolerance... it's... variable. I had a similar experience with their massaman curry once, thought my tongue was going to spontaneously combust. Ended up chugging a whole liter of coconut water. They're not messing around with the chili. Maybe ask for a "mild" next time, even though you'll probably still sweat through your shirt. Good luck!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
