Si Phraya Road's Street Food Scene?

Life-changing. But I noticed a lot of the vendors seemed to close up shop pretty early. What's the deal with that? Is there some kind of unspoken curfew or something? Or do they just sell out that fast??

The early closing is pretty standard on Si Phraya. Most of those vendors are there for the lunch crowd from the nearby office buildings and the students from Assumption College. By 7 or 8pm, the foot traffic drops off dramatically, so they pack up. If you want a late night street food fix, you're better off heading a few blocks over to Yaowarat Road in Chinatown, where things don't even get going until 10pm.

A few of those vendors have been on Si Phraya for decades and they've got their routines locked in. The guy who makes that incredible Pad See Ew, he's usually done by 6pm because he starts prepping at 4am to get his fresh noodles from the market in Talat Noi. If you want to try his other dishes, show up around 11am before the lunch rush wipes him out.

si phraya is a weird in-between zone for food. the lunch crowd from the silom offices and assumpion college students are the main customers, so the stalls work around that schedule. if you want late night, walk down to the river at robinson bangrak, there's a cluster of vendors that stay open till midnight because of the department store and the taxi drivers who eat there after their shifts

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
