The energy was incredible, a whirlwind of street food vendors, bustling shops overflowing with fabrics, and families chatting on their doorsteps. I got hopelessly turned around though! Seriously, I felt like I was in a real-life Where's Waldo? Eventually, I found my way back to the main road, but wow... Is there a map, or even a guide, anywhere to navigate those streets without ending up in another dimension?

The vendors are your best bet for navigation, honestly. Most of them have been working those same spots for years and know every shortcut. If you're trying to find a specific shop, ask for it by name and the fabric sellers will usually point you in the right direction. The trick is knowing that the whole area is split by the canal, so if you hit the water you've gone too far east or west.

there's actually no real map of mit samphan that works, the place was built before planning was a thing. if you want a strategy, pick one of the main through streets and stick to it until you hit the canal, then turn around. the vendors are pretty friendly too, you can just ask "where's the main road" and they'll point you

honestly, mit samphan is one of those places where maps just lie to you. i've lived here 5 years and still take wrong turns. the trick isn't a map, it's landmarks. look for the big yellow shophouse with the gold sign selling dried squid, that's your anchor. from there, just remember if you hit the soi with the old lady selling mango sticky rice for 40 baht, you've gone too far north

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
