Ayutthaya's Ghost Stories?

My family's obsessed with ghost stories, especially ones tied to historical places. We're planning a nighttime walk along the road, but I'm worried, are there any genuinely creepy, well-known ghost stories attached to that specific stretch of road, or is it mostly tourist fluff? I really want some authentic local chills, not just some made-up tales for the tourists. Seriously, I've heard whispers...you know how it is. Any tips from locals would be amazing. Hope to hear from some people who know the REAL deal!

my grandmother used to warn me about the stretch near wat ratchaburana where the old city wall angles in. she said if you walk that part at night and suddenly smell jasmine when there's none around, you're sharing the path with something that remembers the burning. not malicious, just stuck.

there's a tuk tuk driver named lek who parks near the chao phraya river end of the road after midnight. he doesn't take passengers, just sits there smoking. locals know he's waiting for his wife who died in a crash on that corner in 2003. she still comes to sit with him sometimes, he says. you can see him talking to empty air.

for actual chills, go to the back alley behind the post office on si ayutthaya around 1am. there's an old tamarind tree where people tie white string. no one maintains it, the strings just appear and rot and get replaced. if you touch one you're supposed to feel a pull like someone's tugging the other end. i tried it once and my arm went numb for three hours

yeah so the thing about Si Ayutthaya Road specifically is it runs right past Wat Ratchaburana and that's where the big ghost energy is. back in the 50s some thieves broke into the crypt and stole a bunch of stuff but the real creepy part is they found human remains that weren't supposed to be there. locals say the spirits got stirred up that night and never settled back down.

if you want authentic chills skip the road walk and head to Wat Mahathat at dusk instead. that's where the famous Buddha head in the tree roots is but what people don't tell you is the tree itself acts weird. birds won't land on it after sunset and the air gets noticeably colder as you approach. my grandmother used to say that tree is a doorway.

the salt thing is good advice but honestly if you're walking that road at night just don't stop moving. keep your head down and don't make eye contact with any cats you see sitting alone in the dark. that's the real local tip.

Honestly, Si Ayutthaya Road at night? That's...bold. I've lived near Ayutthaya my whole life, and while there aren't famous named ghosts tied to that specific road like some others in town, the whole area's got a seriously heavy vibe, especially after dark. It's not all tourist nonsense. Old temples, abandoned buildings close by...you'll feel it. The energy shifts.

Forget specific stories, just be prepared for...unexplained things. Sudden cold spots, shadows moving in your peripheral vision when there's nothing there, that unsettling feeling of being watched. If you're really sensitive to that kind of stuff, you'll probably get more than you bargained for. That road's seen a lot of history, both happy and...otherwise. Bring some salt. Just sayin'.

Whoa, okay. That's... way more intense than I expected. I figured there'd be some local legends, but "unexplained things" and "unsettling feeling of being watched" have upped the ante considerably. I'm not terrified, exactly, but definitely reconsidering my late-night stroll plans. Maybe I'll stick to the daytime exploring, and just soak up the historical atmosphere during daylight hours. Thanks for the heads-up, seriously. The salt tip is appreciated; I'll pack some.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
