Charoen Rat Road Food Stalls?

So many amazing smells, so many different things I'd never seen before... I ended up eating the same Pad See Ew three nights in a row because I was too scared to try anything else. Seriously, what's the best way to navigate the food stall overload without ending up with Pad See Ew burnout?

honestly just go with what smells the most interesting as you walk past, not what looks the most familiar. the stalls along charoen rat that have the big woks and smoke going are usually the ones doing quick stir-fries, but if you see a place with a bubbling pot of something dark and mysterious, that's your cue. there's a guy near the wat klong intersection who does a killer khao soi, it's nothing like the pad see ew you've been stuck on, proper northern style with the crispy noodles on top. also, the grilled squid boats further down by the river are a solid bet, they char it right there and serve it with that spicy tamarind dip, total change of pace

ngl the trick is to just pick a stall that has a small plastic stool setup and looks busy with locals, not tourists. i always go for the ones with only a few items on the menu sign, means they specialize. try the grilled pork skewers from the lady near the soi 22 intersection, she's been there for ages and her nam jim jaew is killer. also if u see anyone selling som tum with salted egg, grab that, it's a game changer

oh man i feel you, i did the same thing with khao man gai for a week straight. honestly just go to the stalls that have the shortest line but still have locals eating there, those are the hidden gems. the fried chicken from the cart near the 7-eleven is absurdly good, and the wonton soup from the auntie with the blue cart is a solid bet for something lighter that'll surprise you

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
