Found a tiny shop selling hand-painted silk scarves, absolutely gorgeous. Problem is, I completely lost my bearings trying to find the main road again. It felt like I was in a maze! Any tips for navigating this neighbourhood without getting hopelessly lost next time?

another trick is to look for the little spirit houses tucked into corners, they're everywhere in that maze and most have a distinct flower arrangement or incense holder. if you remember which one had the orange marigolds or the chipped roof, that's your anchor point. the one on soi 4 has a tiny elephant statue that's been there so long the paint is almost gone, it's right where the alley splits three ways

also the street food carts are pretty stationary, the old guy with the grilled squid sets up at the same spot on song wat side every day around 4pm. if you find him you're two turns from the main road

You want the real trick for that area, look for the old Chinese shophouse numbers instead of the soi signs. They're painted in gold above the doorways, original from the 1950s, and they follow a logical sequence that the newer street numbering doesn't. Number 47 is always between 45 and 49, so you can trace your path that way.

The scarf shop you found is almost certainly the one on Soi 5 with the blue wooden shutters, the owner's mother has been painting there since the 70s. She does custom work if you bring her a photo, and she'll draw you a little map on the back of her business card that actually works.

ngl the best trick is to just follow a delivery rider. grab or lineman guys know every shortcut and dead end in that maze, just trail one for a few turns and you'll hit charoen krung. they're everywhere around 11am when the lunch orders start

also that scarf shop is probably the one with the green awning near soi 7. if you go back, the alley just past it has a faded mural of a giant cat that leads straight to the river in about four minutes. the stray dogs will also guide you if you let them, they have their own little routes between food stalls

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
