Non-O Dependent Visa Holder - Bank Account Options in Thailand?

Hey Thailand folks! πŸ‘‹

I'm working in Bangkok as a dev with proper work permit and have accounts with K Bank and Bangkok Bank. My wife is here on a Non-O dependent visa and we're struggling to open a bank account for her. Most banks seem to reject dependent visa holders straight away.

Current situation: - I have work permit + accounts - Wife on Non-O dependent - We're in On Nut area - Need her to have basic banking/QR payment access - Have marriage cert and all docs

Questions: 1. Any banks known to be more friendly to dependent visa holders? 2. Any specific branches (especially around Sukhumvit) that you've had success with? 3. What extra documents helped you get approved? 4. Is getting an additional card on my account a better option?

Really appreciate any experiences or tips. Starting to feel like I'm missing something obvious here!

Thanks in advance! πŸ™

(PS: If any bank staff or recent successful applicants are reading this, would love to hear your process)

yeah the supplementary card is def the path of least resistance but if she really wants her own account, try the Bangkok Bank branch at Seacon Square. it's a bit of a trek from On Nut but they deal with foreigners all the time and are way more chill than the Sukhumvit branches. bring the original marriage cert, your work permit, her Non-O extension stamp (not the visa sticker), and a copy of your yellow book if you have one. they might ask for a letter from immigration confirming her address too, so grab a TM30 printout while you're at it

The additional card route is probably your quickest fix. Just walk into your K Bank branch and ask for a supplementary card tied to your account. They'll issue it in her name on the spot, no visa scrutiny, and she can link it to PromptPay for QR payments.

That said, some Kasikorn branches in central malls have been known to open accounts for dependents if you bring the marriage certificate plus your work permit and a letter from your company HR confirming your employment. The big branch at CentralWorld on the 4th floor is usually more accommodating than the smaller ones near On Nut. They'll want to see the Non-O extension stamp, not just the visa sticker, so make sure her 90-day report slip is current.

If you hit another wall, the supplementary card is genuinely easier and costs nothing extra beyond the annual fee. She gets full banking access through your account without the headache.

honestly the supplementary card is the move, but if she really wants her own account try the Kasikorn branch inside Big C On Nut. the managers there see dependents all the time since half the building is expat housing. bring your work permit original, her Non-O extension paper (the blue slip not the visa sticker), marriage cert with translation, and a copy of your rental contract or TM30. they'll photograph everything and it takes like 20 minutes

the issue with most sukhumvit branches is they get so many walk-ins they just default to no. the smaller ones like the one in Habito mall or the tiny BB on Soi 50 might say yes out of boredom. also worth noting that Krungsri has been opening accounts for dependents recently if you say it's for salary transfer from your company, even if that's a stretch

one thing nobody mentions is that some banks require her to have a tax ID now even for dependent accounts, so stop by the revenue office at Chatuchak first and get her a 13-digit number. takes 15 minutes with your marriage cert and her passport, makes the bank process way smoother

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
