tbh you could also try the old school salons in Yaowarat, there's one called Kim Hair near the Odeon Circle that's been around since the 60s. the auntie who runs it doesn't speak much english but she can do a mean 40s pompadour with a rat tail comb and she charges like 500 baht. just bring a photo reference and she'll nail it, she's been doing these styles since they were actually in fashion

ngl most places here will try to give you a modern take on vintage rather than the real deal. but if you want someone who actually studied old techniques, try Niche Studio off Sukhumvit 49. the owner, Khun Fern, used to work at a period film studio and can do proper pin curls and victory rolls. just be prepared to pay around 1500-2000 baht for a set and style that takes an hour or more

if you're after 30s finger waves specifically, try Vintage Barbershop on Ekkamai 12. the guy there, Art, learned from his grandmother who did hair for Thai soap operas back in the day. he charges around 1200 for a full wave set and knows how to do it without heat damage, which most places won't bother with. book ahead though, he only takes one appointment per slot

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
