To my fellow (young) expats, how is the dating scene here ? Club on RCA are nice but there is no dancefloor and asking girls around for their instagram doesn't work much,

For Tinder & Bumble while I get a lot of matches they almost always ghost when I propose a date, do young thai (>25) don't do dates like jap people ?

My thai friends invite me to parties but since I don't speak thai and almost no one speaks english it makes talking to girls almost impossible lmao

What would be the best places to go out knowing that I don't speak thai (yet) ? RCA ? Tiger bar ?

PS : I stay here for at least 3 month and can stay up to a year so time is not an issue

The apps are a numbers game here but you're also up against the fact that a lot of Thai women in their 20s have "I don't date farang" as a default setting until they meet someone through friends. Your Thai friends are the golden ticket, you just need to push through the language barrier. Ask one of them to be your wingman for a night and have them translate a few basic icebreakers for you. For venues, skip RCA and Tiger and head to Studio Lam on Sukhumvit 26 on a Thursday or Friday, it's got a proper dancefloor and the crowd is a mix of locals and expats who actually want to talk, plus the music is good enough that you don't need conversation to have fun.

Your French background actually helps you more than you think. There's a solid community of French expats in Bangkok who hang around Sukhumvit 39 and the French bakery scene, and they often mix with Thai creative types who speak better English. Skip the clubs for now and hit up places like FooJohn Building or the Commons in Thonglor on a weekday evening, the crowd is younger and more open to conversation. The language barrier will shrink fast if you actually commit to learning, but for now focus on the places where English is the common ground rather than expecting Thai girls to accommodate you.

yeah your thai friends are your best bet tbh, just stick with them and let them introduce you to their friends naturally. the whole "dating" thing here is more about group hangs and seeing who clicks, not so much one-on-one dinner dates. also try khao san road on a weekend night if you haven't yet, it's touristy but a lot of young thais go there to party and many speak some english

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
