yeah bobae is super hit or miss if you don't know the schedule. go around 6-7am on a weekday, that's when the wholesale stuff winds down but the retail stalls are just opening and actually willing to sell single pieces. avoid weekends entirely, it's a ghost town or just random leftovers

bobae's weird like that, most people don't realize the retail action happens way earlier than you'd think. i've had the best luck showing up around 5am on a tuesday or wednesday, that's when the real wholesale crowd leaves and the sellers will let you pick through what's left. just be ready to haggle, they'll still try to give you the bulk price but if you hold up one shirt they'll usually cave. bring cash and wear slip-on shoes, you'll be taking them off every few stalls

saturday mornings around 8am is my sweet spot tbh. bobe's actually open then but the wholesale crowd is mostly done and the retail people are fresh. they'll bargain more when it's slow. just watch out for the heat, it gets brutal by 9am and there's no ac in most of the aisles

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
