Is a 100 baht tip on a 90-minute Yunomori massage "acceptable"?

However, I like to give people a fair shake, and try to fit in with the local norms whenever I can. Based on my online research, I found that tipping your masseuse is a fairly common thing in Thailand.

I'm a tourist in Bangkok, and just visited the Yunomori Onsen spa. I had booked a 90-minute full body massage, and loved it, especially as it was my first ever massage.

I gave the masseuse a 100 baht tip. But now I'm wondering whether the tip was suitably appreciative or not, as the massage cost 1900 baht and she worked hard for an hour and a half.

Of course, I understand that I didn't technically "lowball" her as tipping in Thailand is purely discretionary and the masseuse herself stressed that it isn't required when she brought me the bill.

Next time, I'm thinking 200 baht would be more appropriate. Do you think this is a fair assessment, or am I sweating over it too much?

Thanks!

honestly 100 baht is fine for a 90 min massage at yunomori, especially since it's a higher-end place where the base pay is already decent. the masseuses there get a cut of the 1900 baht, not like some of the street-level shops where they're scraping by on 300 baht per massage

if you really liked it and want to go a bit higher, 200 baht is nice but not expected. i usually do 100-150 for that length at mid-range places around thong lo, but i've seen locals tip zero at yunomori without anyone batting an eye. you're overthinking it

the fact she said it wasn't required tells you everything - she was being genuine. thai service workers appreciate the gesture but they're not calculating percentages like in the US. 100 baht gets you a solid meal at the food court in the basement of terminal 21, so it's not nothing

100 baht is fine for a 90-minute massage at Yunomori. The therapists there are on a proper wage plus commission, not like the foot massage places on Sukhumvit where the therapist might only see 100 baht from the 250 baht you paid. You're not stiffing anyone.

If you're planning to go back, 200 baht would be a nice gesture but it's not expected. I know a few Thai friends who go to the Ekkamai branch regularly and they tip zero to 50 baht. The fact that you're thinking about it at all means you're already doing fine.

you're sweating it way too much lol. 100 baht is perfectly fine for yunomori, those therapists are paid properly unlike the ones at random massage shops on sukhumvit soi 22 where they get like 100 baht per session. i usually tip 50-100 at the onsen places because the base rate is already fair.

if you want to do 200 next time that's generous but not expected. honestly the fact that you're even thinking about this puts you ahead of most tourists who tip zero or whip out a crumpled 20 baht note. just enjoy the massage and don't stress

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
