อรุณสวัสดิ์ทุกคนค่ะ 🙏🏻

I'm traveling to Thailand in a few days, and I'll be in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I have a lot of food allergies which so far have not been life-threatening, but I do become somewhere between mildly sick and very sick if I eat those foods. In particular, I'm allergic to soy and coconut. So I'm not coming to Thailand for the food, unfortunately 😆 I plan to eat a lot of mangos, though.

Does anyone have recommendations for allergy-friendly restaurants where they will be honest with me if I can't eat any of their food? I love fish sauce, I'm not allergic to peanuts, and I'm hoping to eat some really good pad Thai, among other things!

TL;DR: Restaurants in Bangkok that take food allergy safety seriously. Any price range, any part of the city.

ngl soy and coconut allergies in thailand is playing the game on hard mode lol but it's doable. for a proper sit-down spot check out baan kiang suan near on nut bts, they do thai-isaan food and the owner's daughter has allergies herself so they're really good about modifying dishes. ask for pad thai without the tamarind sauce (it's sometimes mixed with soy paste) and they'll make it with just fish sauce, tamarind pulp, and sugar

for street food vibes the roti stalls are surprisingly safe since it's just flour, egg, and sugar. there's a lady at the or tor kor market who makes fresh roti with just banana inside, no coconut involved. she's at the south end near the fruit section, open till like 3pm

one thing nobody mentioned is that a lot of thai curries use coconut milk but some places do a peanut-based version instead. ask for "gaeng massaman" without coconut and see if they can sub it with crushed peanuts, some spots near victory monument will do that. just don't expect it to taste the same

soy and coconut is tough for thai food since those are in practically everything here. for pad thai specifically try thipsamai, they're pretty well known and the staff deals with tourists enough to understand allergy questions. just be very clear about no soy sauce and no coconut milk, they might look at you weird but they'll take it seriously

for more general options i'd hit up may kaidee's near khao san road, they're a veggie place that's used to dietary restrictions and can tell you straight up what's safe. also check out barefoot bkk in ekkamai, they do bowls and stuff where you can see everything going in. mango tango near siam square is your friend for that mango fix, they just do mango desserts so no soy or coconut worries there

I lived off the grilled meats at street stalls when I was there. Just point at the skewers and they'll hand you stuff with no sauce. Most soy and coconut is in the marinades though so ask first.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
