Stopover BKK Bangkok Suvarnabhumi in 1 hour 10 minutes possible?

Hey travellers!

I'm planning a trip to Japan next year and found some affordable good flights with a stopover in BKK. Flights are with Thai Airways, luggage will be checked through to the destination. Here is the route:

FRA > BKK arrival time: 06:25 AM

Transfer time 1 hour 10 minutes

BKK > NRT departure time: 07:35 AM

From my experience this is a very short time (taxi, park position, leave plane, change gate), but I don't know BKK yet. Does Thai Airways have its own terminal where such a transfer is possible in that time? Otherwise the airline would not offer such connections? Does anyone have any experience? Any tips would be appreciated!

imo you're overthinking it a bit, 1h10 is standard for thai airways connections at bkk. they know what they're doing with their own schedules, they wouldn't sell it if it wasn't feasible. the airport's layout is actually pretty simple, just one big terminal for all international flights, so no terminal change headache.

the thing nobody mentions is that early morning arrivals like 6:25am mean the airport is still waking up. fewer flights landing means shorter queues at the transit security, i've breezed through in under 10 mins at that hour. your main bottleneck is prob the gate change if they send you to the F or G gates at the far end, but even then it's a 10-15 min walk max.

only real advice is check the gate number on the app as soon as you land, and if it's something like G5 just move with purpose. no need to run unless you see your plane already boarding

you'll be fine as long as you don't dawdle. thai airways uses the main concourse at suvarnabhumi, and 1h10m is tight but doable for a connecting flight. the airport is pretty efficient for transfers, and since your bags are checked through, you just follow the green "flight connections" signs after you get off. just skip the duty free browsing and you'll make it.

the earlier flights tend to be less crowded too, so immigration lines for transit passengers are usually quick. i've done similar connections there a few times and never missed one, but it's not a moment to grab coffee. if you're nervous, ask the gate agent on the fra flight if they can seat you closer to the front.

honestly 1h10m is doable but you really gotta move. thai airways usually parks at the A or B gates which are close to the transfer desk, so you're not running across the whole terminal. the green transit path takes you past the domestic gates area and there's a security check that can get backed up if a few flights land at once.

i'd say your biggest risk is a late arrival from frankfurt. if the fra flight is on time you'll prob walk onto the narita flight as boarding starts. if it's 15-20 mins late you might be sprinting. the thai airways ground staff at the transfer desk are used to tight connections and can sometimes radio ahead to hold the door if they see you coming.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
