honestly ari is where it's at if you want that walkable vibe without the thonglor price tag. the whole neighborhood is like a maze of soi's with live music places tucked in, good street food on every corner, and some proper hip bars like j borosky's or black amber. you can pretty much stumble from one spot to another on foot, plus the bts ari stop puts you anywhere in 20 mins

Samsen in the old town area is worth a look if you want a totally different energy from the usual BTS corridor spots. The walk along the canal from Santichaiprakan Park to Soi Samsen 4 has a handful of tiny live music bars like The Never Ending Summer and a really good craft beer place called Brewhemia. You're also right next to Khao San if you need a fix, but the street food along Samsen Road itself is better in my opinion.

personally i think on nut is super underrated for this. you got the vibe bar, koh phangan bar, and that whole strip of live music places near the bts. plus the walk from the station to w district has tons of food and drink spots, way cheaper than thonglor too

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
