BKK vs. HCMC healthcare?

Both countries have their unique charms, but healthcare is a significant factor for me, any thoughts which one is better in quality, English, and cost?

bangkok's private hospitals are on another level tbh. bumrungrad and samitivej are basically five-star hotels with doctors who trained in the US or UK. you'll pay for it though - a standard checkup there can run 3,000-5,000 baht. english is basically universal at those places, they hand you a translator if needed. hcmc has good options too like fv hospital but the english can be hit or miss with specialists. for serious stuff i'd pick bkk without hesitation, but if you're just doing routine stuff hcmc is fine and cheaper

honestly the price gap is bigger than people think. a specialist consult at bnh hospital here runs like 1,000-1,500 baht, while hcmc's family medical practice charges around $50-60 usd for the same thing. but if you actually need a hospital stay, thailand's insurance is way more straightforward to navigate in english. vietnam's public system is a nightmare for foreigners unless you speak vietnamese. for prescriptions and basic stuff, hcmc is fine and half the price, but for anything where you'd be upset about a misdiagnosis, i'd pay the premium for bkk

yeah if you have any kind of chronic condition or need a specialist, bkk is the move. the international hospitals here have entire wings for things like cardiology or oncology in english, while in hcmc you'd be hunting for one or two good doctors. plus thailand's medical tourism infrastructure means you can get a full executive checkup done in half a day with results in english, hcmc you're waiting a week for a report that might be half vietnamese. for a standard fever or stitches either is fine but for peace of mind bkk wins

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
