Like I read sth you can smoke freely on a public, and it's now legalized, like in the Netherlands. Is this stuff true? I Like I had an idea that if you get catch with drugs in Thailand you can go to jail. I'm planning to go soon, I'm not a smoker but my partner sometimes it is. So wondering is it safe? I think is better no mess with it, but that's why I'm asking you if you could help if someone knows Thx in advance.

basically true but the vibe is way different from amsterdam. you won't see people smoking openly on the street in most areas, more like discreetly at a shop's designated spot or on their balcony. sukhumvit soi 11 has a bunch of dispensaries now, some with little smoking lounges attached

the legal risk is low if you buy from licensed shops and don't act a fool in public. cops don't care about casual use but they'll still bust you for being loud or smoking near a temple or school. just tell your partner to be chill and not light up around families or monks and it's fine

honestly your partner will be fine as long as they buy from a proper shop and don't smoke right in front of a cop. the whole "go to jail" thing is more about like meth or heroin, weed is treated way differently now. just don't be that tourist blowing smoke in people's faces at a crowded bar and nobody will care

It's true it's been decriminalized, but the rules are pretty loose and change a lot. Your partner can buy from shops fine, but public smoking is technically not allowed in most spots so stick to private places like a hotel room or a shop with a lounge.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
