What are some expensive things to do?

Bit of a paradigm shift. Instead of a budget holiday for the entire trip I'm going to commit at least half of it to over indulging and finding some cool experiences and things to do regardless of cost… Bit of a paradigm shift. Instead of a budget holiday for the entire trip I'm going to commit at least half of it to over indulging and finding some cool experiences and things to do regardless of cost.

I'm going in November if that changes anything.

Any recommendations?

honestly if you want to blow some cash in a memorable way, book a private dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya with a place like Supanniga Cruise or the one through the Mandarin Oriental. it's not cheap, like 4-5k baht per person, but the view of Wat Arun lit up at night is insane and you get proper thai food instead of the buffet garbage on the big tourist boats

for something totally different, rent a private longtail boat for the day and have them take you through the smaller khlongs out past Thonburi. you'll see the old wooden houses, maybe spot a monitor lizard, and hit the floating market at Taling Chan without the crowds. it's like 2k-3k for a few hours and way more chill than the packed public tours

November is perfect btw, the weather finally cools down a bit so rooftop bars are actually pleasant. Sky Bar at Lebua is the obvious one but honestly I'd skip it, too touristy and expensive for what it is. try Tichuca or the one at the top of the SO/ Bangkok hotel instead, better vibes and the drinks are still pricey but not ridiculous

if you want to drop some serious cash on a meal that's more of an experience, Gaggan at the former residence is reopening in a new spot near thong lor. it's like 6k+ baht for the tasting menu but it's this wild progressive indian thing with like 25 courses and edible balloons and stuff. worth it once if you're into food as theater

for something completely different, book a private table at the cabaret at Calypso. it's not the cheap tourist version, they have a VIP section with bottles and you can actually meet the performers after. around 3k baht for the package but the costumes are insane and it's way more polished than the gogo bars

if you want a souvenir that costs real money, the Jim Thompson flagship store has limited edition silk pieces that run 10k+ baht. they'll do custom tailoring too if you bring a photo of a dress or shirt you like. takes about a week so plan ahead

ngl if you really want to drop some cash in a unique way, book a private session at the Mandarin Oriental's spa. their Oriental Ritual is like 3+ hours, costs around 10k baht, and it's in this old colonial building right on the river. you get a steam, a scrub, a massage, and then they let you lounge in their robes with tea afterward - feels like being in a different century

for something more active, there's a place called Muay Thai Academy off Soi Rangnam that does private training with former champions. 1,500 baht an hour gets you a legit session, not a tourist show. you'll be sore for days but it's a real bangkok experience

if you're into cars, check out the Bangkok Motor Show at the end of November. VIP tickets are like 500 baht and you get to skip lines plus sit in the concept cars. not crazy expensive but way more fun than the shopping malls

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
