I know the Michelin Guide doesn't really feature the most authentic food but based on your experiences, were they worth it? Can you recommend what to avoid and what is a must try? Thanks!

the michelin bib gourmand list is actually pretty solid for street food in bangkok. i'd say avoid the ones that are suddenly tourist traps with 2 hour queues, like thipsamai pad thai, it's fine but not worth standing around for. the real gems are the ones locals still queue for, like khao tom wattana for their crab fried rice or jok prince for the century egg porridge. just check google maps before you go and if the line is more than 20 people, try another branch or a different day

yeah the michelin guide picks are a mixed bag tbh but the bib gourmand ones are usually solid. the ones that actually earned their star years ago and kept it are the ones where the owner still cooks, not the ones that expanded to three branches. i'd skip any place that has a separate "queue for foreigners" system, that's a red flag. the best ones are the small stalls where the grandma or grandpa is still stirring the pot, like the braised pork leg place in sukhumvit soi 38 or the boat noodles at thong lo

honestly some are worth it some aren't. jay fai is good but the wait is insane, i'd skip it. try the khao gaeng jay pong instead, way more chill and the curries are incredible

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
