Where to buy ao dai in Bangkok?

I was in Vietnam for a few days and didn't have time to get one tailor made. Does anyone know of any Vietnamese tailors in Bangkok that make authentic ao dai's? there's a vietnamese couple who run a small stall at chatuchak weekend market, section 27 near the fountain. they do custom ao dai orders on the spot with a 2-week turnaround and deliver to your hotel. the wife learned from her aunt in hue so the fit is really good. they charge around 2500 baht for silk and you pick the fabric from their samples. just go on a saturday morning when they're less rushed

honestly if you want proper ao dai go to phra khanong area, there's a small vietnamese community around wat thammamongkol temple. few shops tucked in the soi behind the temple that do real custom work, mostly for the local vietnamese families who live there. cheaper than sukhumvit too, like 800-1200 baht

the tailors there actually understand the difference between northern and southern styles, which most places in bangkok dont bother with. just bring a photo of what you want and they'll get it right. takes about a week tho since theyre not rushing for tourists

honestly skip the tourist spots and head to bangrak (the old vietnamese quarter). there's a few family-run shops on soi charoen krung 43 that have been making ao dai for generations, not just for tourists. they'll measure you properly and have better fabric options, prices are similar maybe 1800-2500 baht but the stitching is way cleaner. just bring a photo of what you want, they don't speak much english but they know the style

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
