What do locals do for fun?

Are there any recommendations of activities to do or places to visit that the local Thai people enjoy going to or doing? Planning to visit again this August. Would love all your suggestions! Cheers!

the river ferries are legit for a cheap afternoon, take the orange flag line from sathorn all the way to nonthaburi, costs like 20 baht and you see how people actually live along the water. get off at wat khema for a quiet temple and grab some khao tom (rice soup) from the stalls nearby, way better than the overpriced boat noodle spots in the center. also if you're around in august, check out the bangkok art biennale or whatever pop-up exhibition is on at bacc, it's free and locals actually go there to kill time on weekends

If you want to see how locals actually wind down, head to one of the community malls like The Commons or W District. They're open air with a mix of food stalls, pop-up shops, and live acoustic sets, and you'll see families and young couples just hanging out for hours over a few plates of som tam and a bottle of sangsom. Another thing Thais do is book a weekend at a homestay in a nearby province like Kanchanaburi or Samut Songkhram, even just for one night, to escape the city pace and eat fresh river prawns by the water. August is rainy season so pack an umbrella and don't stress if a downpour hits, it usually clears in 20 minutes and the streets empty out, which makes walking around Sukhumvit soi 71 or Ekkamai actually pleasant.

honestly the best bangkok locals thing is just grabbing a few friends and wandering through a neighborhood like talad noi or bang rak for street food and random little art galleries. sundays there's a flea market at chatuchak but not the touristy section, go to the old book zone or the plant area. also if u want a real chill night, find a rotsi or street-side bar along the canal in thonburi, just sit with a beer and watch the longtail boats go by

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
