Where to buy korean souvenir (sukajan) jacket?

I'll be travelling to Seoul in March and I'm really interested in picking up a sukajan jacket / souvenir jacket while I am there.

Where is the best place to buy a souvenir jacket? Info on price ranges, shop names and brands are also appreciated.

Myeongdong's main shopping street has a couple of dedicated souvenir jacket shops, not just the random tourist stalls. One near the Nature Republic flagship store carries mostly new stock with Korean wave motifs like BTS symbols and hanbok patterns, priced around 70,000 to 100,000 won. The embroidery is machine done but the satin is heavier than what you'd find at Express Bus Terminal, so it actually feels like a real jacket rather than a costume piece. If you want something more authentic to the Korean military souvenir tradition, head to the Itaewon flea market on a Saturday morning, the vendors near the Hamilton Hotel side sometimes have actual 1980s jackets from US base exchanges with unit patches sewn on, those run 50,000 to 80,000 won and the thread work is noticeably tighter.

You might want to check out the vintage section at Dongmyo Flea Market, especially on weekends when the vendors set up along the main walking path. The sukajan jackets there tend to be older, often from the 90s or early 2000s, and you can find them for as low as 20,000 to 40,000 won if you're patient. The selection is less predictable than the places in Myeongdong or Hongdae, but the ones with actual wear and fading have a better feel to them. Just bring cash and be ready to sort through piles, the sellers near the Dongmyo station exit 3 usually have the most variety.

honestly for a more curated selection than the vintage markets, try the underground shopping center at express bus terminal station. there's a row of shops near exit 8-2 that stock new sukajan-style jackets with both traditional tiger & crane motifs and some korean pop culture designs, prices sit around 60,000 to 90,000 won and you can haggle a bit if you buy two. the quality's decent for the price, not the super thick satin but fine for a souvenir. also namdaemun market has a few fabric stalls that sell the blank jackets for like 30,000 won if you want to get one embroidered yourself at one of the custom shops in insadong, though that'll run you another 50,000 to 70,000 won depending on the design complexity

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
