This is my first time in the country and there is a lot of buzz around the cherry blossom tours and events revolving around that. Are those tours worth it though? Or would I be fine exploring it by myself?

totally agree with the other reply, tours are a waste of money for cherry blossoms here. if you're in seoul first week of april, check out the streets around ewha womans university, the whole neighborhood has these massive old trees that create a tunnel effect and it's way chiller than yeouido. also the seoul grand park by the zoo has a nice path with cherry trees and barely anyone goes there for that.

for busan, ngl the best spot i've found is the walk along the suyeong river near centum city station, it goes on for like 3km with trees on both sides and you can grab a beer from a nearby convenience store and just sit on a bench. way more relaxed than any tour group where they rush you through 15 min photo stops

honestly you dont need a tour for cherry blossoms in seoul. yeouido is the obvious spot but it gets packed, i'd skip the official festival and just walk the stream near seokchon lake instead, way less crowded and you get the lotte world tower in the background for photos. for busan, the best trees are along the street near oncheoncheon stream or the walkway at daechang park, both free and no tour needed. tours just herd you around and overcharge, you'll have a better time wandering on your own and stopping for coffee whenever you want

the tours are really just for people who dont know how to use the subway honestly. if ur already comfortable navigating seoul you'll find better spots on ur own. for seoul first week of april, skip yeouido and go to the path along yangjaecheon instead, it runs for like 5km from yangjae station to the han river and the trees form a full canopy. way less touristy than the main spots and you can stop at the little cafes near gyodae station for a break. busan the nampo-dong area near the international market has random cherry trees mixed in with the street stalls which feels more local than the big park routes

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
