It's a small basement bar with typical metal aesthetics but they let you actually take a piece of paper and choose a song off Apple Music. Just a cool, down to earth establishment that plays a wide range of metal, not just the popular stuff.

honestly there's a spot called ff in hongdae that might scratch that itch. it's a weird little basement place tucked behind the main street, not super easy to find but that's part of the charm. they do a lot of underground korean metal and hardcore but also throw in some old school death and thrash. the bartender used to let me pick songs from his phone when it was quiet. drinks are cheap too, like 5,000 won for a soju or beer.

yeah there's a spot called thunder road in hongdae, it's a small basement bar kinda like what ur describing. they do a mix of local and international metal, not just the mainstream stuff. the owner's a metalhead himself so he'll play requests if he's around. cover's usually like 10,000 won or so.

dunno if anyone's mentioned it but there's a place called road's pub in sinchon that flies under the radar. it's not a basement bar, it's more of a second floor walkup with a tiny balcony, but the vibe is super laid back and they play a lot of european death metal plus some grindcore. the owner's a middle aged dude who's been in the scene since the 90s, he'll pull out his own cds if u ask nice. soju's 4,000 won and they have fried chicken for 12,000 won. it's near the sinchon rotary, look for the faded iron maiden poster in the window

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
