We could go to the festival in Gwanghwamun or just generally hang out and eat together. 18yo Korean here btw! I'm free today, Friday and from the 17th. :)

hongdae on a friday night is a different beast after like 9pm, the whole playground area fills up and it's loud. if u want somewhere you can actually talk, the cafes on the side streets off wausan-ro near the little park are way calmer and open late. gwanghwamun fest is nice for photos but honestly the crowd crush on weekends is no joke, went once and spent 20 min just trying to cross the plaza. for a first meetup i'd pick hongdae, grab dakgalbi on hongik-ro then walk it off

Gwanghwamun has the festival going on but it gets packed on weekends so if you're meeting today, a Friday, aim for late afternoon before the office crowds hit. Hongdae is easier for just hanging out since you've got the whole Hongik-ro strip for food and nobody rushes you out. If you go the Gwanghwamun route, the alleys behind the main plaza toward Sejong-daero have better cheap eats than the spots right on the square.

both areas work but the 17th timing matters more than the spot honestly. that's a Saturday and the Gwanghwamun festival runs through the weekend so expect it to be mobbed all day, not just evenings. if you're meeting a stranger for the first time i'd lean toward a weekday slot instead, way less pressure and you can actually hear each other. also 18 means you're freshly legal so a lot of the Hongdae bars won't be an issue, but plenty of the chill spots are cafes anyway so no worries there.

Reserve the 2pm seating, gets packed after 3.

the set, not a la carte

Coming from Haebangchon, take line 6 to Itaewon then walk up, taxi is only like 6,000 won though. Skip the scones honestly, they're dry. Order the first flush darjeeling a la carte and a slice of their matcha roll.
