Hi!

I've been wanting to get some new glasses or prescription sunglasses for myself and I saw this brand called Alo which seemed pretty reasonable in price and apparently gets you your glasses all done in less than an hour, I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with them and if it's an easy proccess/ do they speak English?

Any info would be helpful!

Thanks.

yeah i've used them a couple times, the one near gangnam station. process is straightforward, they take ur prescription and u pick frames from the wall, then they make them in the back while u wait. english was fine when i went, the staff there are used to tourists. just know the quality is what u'd expect for the price, like the frames aren't gonna last years but they're fine for a backup pair or daily beater. if u want something nicer i'd go to davich instead, but for speed and price alo does the job

I've walked past their Hongdae location a few times and it's usually busy, which is a decent sign. They do have English-speaking staff at that branch, at least the last time I was in the area, so you shouldn't have trouble communicating. The whole one-hour thing is real if you pick from their in-stock frames, but if you want a specific brand or lens coating it might take a couple days. I'd say it's a solid option if you're in a hurry and not looking for anything too fancy.

I actually used Alo near Sinsa station a few months ago when my regular pair broke right before a trip. The whole process took about 40 minutes including picking frames and they had an English menu on the tablet for lens options. One thing nobody mentioned to me beforehand is that their basic anti-scratch coating is included in the price, but the anti-reflective is a separate add-on that runs about 20,000 won extra. For the money it's fine, just don't expect the hinges to feel premium.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
