I have no education, I have experience in fashion in a senior position. Can you get recognized as a model without being physically there? Any tips, information. Everything would be useful. I also know about the holidays, but I wish you had other ideas than the ones you would like to share.

The fashion scene here runs on two very different tracks and it matters which one you're aiming at. The big brands and department store floors (Shinsegae, Lotte) hire through headhunters and they do care about the degree on paper, but the Dongdaemun side, the wholesale and sample markets around Doota and Migliore, is far more about who you know and whether you can produce. A senior production or buying background can get you in there without the credential, though the pay is lower and the hours are rough. Remote hiring does happen for design and merch roles at smaller labels, but you'll almost always need to fly in for a final meeting before anyone commits.

one angle nobody touched is that fashion in Korea runs on hiring cycles tied to the buying calendar. the big intake for merchandisers and production people is right after the trade shows wrap, so like late March and again in September, and thats when recruiters at the labels around Cheongdam are actually picking up the phone. if you apply in like July you're basically shouting into a void.

on the modeling thing, remote scouting is real dead but there's a side door. some of the mid tier agencies in Sinsa will look at an instagram or a digitals package if a current model vouches for u. cold submissions get ignored, referrals get a reply. so if you know anyone on a Korean agency board thats your actual shot, not emailing them out of nowhere.

also nobody mentioned the F-2-7 points visa. you can stack points for age, Korean ability, and income and it doesnt strictly require the degree if your salary history in fashion is strong enough. worth a look before you assume the E-7 is your only door.

if u go the D-10 route, the points table rewards Korean ability way more than people expect. TOPIK level 4 alone is like 15 points and there are extra points for finishing a Korean language program at a uni here, so a few months at a language school in Sinchon can literally be the thing that gets u over the line. sounds backwards but studying first is sometimes the fastest workaround for someone without the degree.

on the fashion side nobody's mentioned the KOSDAQ-listed mid brands and the showroom agencies around Nonhyeon, they hire buying and production people off headhunter referrals and a senior background carries real weight there. they won't fly u in tho, u gotta be here.

modeling, forget cold outreach entirely. digitals package with clean shots, no makeup, natural light, and get someone already on a board to pass it along.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
