Foodland in Seoul 2026: what should I expect?

Moving to Seoul this spring and keep seeing Foodland mentioned for groceries. Is it actually a Korean chain or an import store, and what's worth buying there vs a regular mart? πŸ›’ Moving to Seoul this spring and keep seeing Foodland mentioned for groceries. Foodland is a Korean chain, mostly in the big apartment complexes, not an import shop. Their banchan and marinated meat are solid and cheaper than Emart, but skip produce there and hit a proper mart. The store brand milk and eggs are teh real value.

the frozen dumplings & tofu are the real grab, half the price of the name brands and just as good

milk & eggs yeah but check the expiry on the 1+1 stuff, they push short dates hard on weekends

Produce is fine at the Hannam branch.

Agree on the banchan, though I'd add that the frozen mandu near the butcher counter is the sleeper buy.

Second this, the shrimp mandu version too.

Their house-made kimchi in the refrigerated bins near the back beats most brand jars, and the seafood counter marks down fresh fish after 7pm.

Best early morning coffee near Daybreak Cafe Seoul 2026

Anyone know if Daybreak Cafe still opens at 7am on weekdays? I'm usually around Mapo-gu before work and need a decent flat white that early. Tried a couple spots on the same street but they don't open… Anyone know if Daybreak Cafe still opens at 7am on weekdays? There's a small roastery called Ssen on the Mapo backstreets off Dongmak-ro that pulls a solid flat white from 7:30, cash only though. If you're truly stuck before then, the 24-hour Paris Baguette on World Cup buk-ro does an okay americano, not a flat white.

Ssen's flat white is solid but they don't do takeaway cups, so bring your own if you're rushing.

Daybreak's weekday 7am open still holds, but the flat white at Coffee Libre's World Cup-ro branch beats it, and they open at 7:30.

Agreed on Coffee Libre, though the World Cup-ro queue after 7:30 can eat ten minutes, so I'd get there right at open.
