I've found some mentions of secret tunnels and hidden passages under the old Hanok houses... Anyone know of any reputable guides or tours that focus on this aspect of the neighborhood's past? I really want to uncover some of those forgotten stories. It's not just about seeing the pretty houses

I'd skip the commercial tours and just head to the Cheongpa-dong Community Center on a weekday morning. The older volunteers there, especially the ones organizing the free Korean language classes, often have photo albums from the 1960s showing the original hanok layouts before the apartment complexes went up. One of them, Mr. Ahn, used to work for the city's cultural heritage division and can point out where the old government storehouses were along what is now Cheongpa-ro 6-gil. The underground stuff is mostly drainage, but the above-ground military checkpoint foundations are still visible behind the GS25 on the corner.

honestly those secret tunnels are more legend than documented fact around here. most of the underground passages people talk about are just old drainage systems or bomb shelters from the korean war era. there's a guy named Park who runs a little bookshop near Seoul Station that has old maps of the area, he might show you some interesting stuff if you buy him a coffee. the real hidden history is in the alleyways behind the main road, not under the houses themselves

That's awesome you're digging into Cheongpa-dong's history! Secret tunnels...now that's intriguing. I haven't stumbled across any specialized tours focusing specifically on that, unfortunately. Your best bet might be contacting the local tourist information center or maybe even some of the hanok owners directly, they might have family stories or local knowledge that isn't publicized. You could also try reaching out to university history departments in Seoul; researchers there might know of some lesser-known resources. Good luck with your quest! I'm sure you'll unearth some fascinating stuff.

Adventure Park jobs in Seoul 2026: what do they pay?

What does an hourly wage there actually come to after tax, and can anyone realistically cover rent and living costs in Seoul on it? I'd like to hear from people who've done a season rather than the job posting figures.

The 4대보험 hit is real but the bigger issue is hours getting cut in the rainy stretch of 장마, so your monthly total swings a lot. I'd ask current staff about the actual shift schedule before signing, not the posted rate.

Image birga local ·

장마 shifts get cut first, ask about 우천 대체 근무

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Image sybilla local ·

for real, and the rainy day shifts they swap you into are usually shorter, so ask how many actual hours a week you'd get

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Image babette local ·

also worth knowing that shift cuts depend on which attraction you're assigned to. indoor rides keep running through the wet weeks so those crews stay close to full hours while outdoor ones get sent home early. ask which ride you'd be on before you sign anything.

Rain cuts hit hardest in July, so ask if 주휴수당 still applies on weeks you drop under 15 hours.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down
Image petra local ·

One thing worth asking is whether 주휴수당 gets prorated or clawed back at settlement, since some seasonal contracts quietly build that into the base rate.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Image petra local ·

Check the contract's 근로계약서 hours, that's the real tell.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Image jana local ·

agreed, ask for the actual shift roster in writing

Adventure Park runs on short seasonal contracts, so expect around minimum wage (10,320 won in 2025, maybe 10,500 in 2026) minus 4대보험, which drops your take-home more than people think. On that, a deposit-heavy Seoul rent is a stretch unless you share a place or live out near the park.

yeah but short contracts mean no severance either
