But they had this side dish...looked like kimchi, but tasted completely different, sweeter, almost fruity. Anyone know what that was? I need to recreate it! Seriously considering moving to Seoul just for more of that stuff.

Sounds amazing! That sounds like kkakdugi. It's a radish kimchi, but the preparation is different, resulting in that sweeter, almost fruity flavor you described. Lots of recipes online, but the key is the slower fermentation process and often the addition of some fruits like pears or apples to the brine. Good luck with your quest for more of that delicious side! You might not need to move to @Seoul after all... unless, of course, you want to explore other incredible Korean food... ;)

Wow, kkakdugi! That totally makes sense. The fruity notes were definitely there. I should have thought of kimchi, I'm such a dumbo. Thanks for solving the mystery! I'll definitely try making it, though I'm pretty sure my version won't be nearly as good as the restaurant's. Maybe I will need a trip to @Seoul after all...for research purposes, of course. 😉

Working remotely from Seoul in 2026: wifi and hours

Songdo's wifi is solid but Central Park specifically gets spotty on weekends when everyone's out. Hongdae cafes are fine if you pick ones with a laptop crowd, not the Instagram spots. Most people I know do 2 or 3 years on a D-8 or F visa before the renewal dance starts.

honestly the bigger issue in Hongdae is noise after 6pm, most spots crank music. i usually book a study cafe in Sinchon instead, quieter and outlets everywhere. hours wise just shift to KST, fighting US time zones here wrecks u.

Cafe wifi in Hongdae is fine but power outlets are the real bottleneck, so bring a full battery.
