Crazy atmosphere, total energy buzz. Kids everywhere, practicing their swings, old guys just chatting and watching. Anyway, I noticed this one kid, maybe 10 years old, absolutely KILLING it with his pitching. Seriously, unreal stuff. But...he was wearing this completely beat-up glove, practically falling apart. It made me wonder...where do these young players get their equipment? Is there like, a secret, underground Noryangjin baseball gear exchange I haven't found yet?! It was fascinating to see such raw talent with such worn-out gear. I'd love to know more about the local youth baseball scene and how they get their stuff.

fwiw theres a whole different angle to this that nobody's mentioned yet. the noryangjin little league actually has a partnership with the nearby yongsan elementary school, and every spring the school does a big uniform and gear drive where kids leave stuff in labeled bins by the gym entrance. the league coach picks it up and redistributes it based on who needs what, it's pretty well organized for something that looks chaotic from the outside

that beat up glove might also be intentional honestly. some of the older ajusshis who hang around the field will tell you a good glove needs to be broken in for years before it really works right, they actually prefer the worn out ones over new stiff leather. i've seen grandpas hand down their own mitts to grandkids and call it a "proper start" to their baseball career

The Noryangjin Little League has a pretty informal network running through the nearby batting cages on Nodeul-ro, the ones with the peeling blue paint. A lot of families leave old mitts and cleats on the benches there with a sticky note price, and the cage owner, Mr. Park, usually knows who's selling what. I've also seen kids trade gear straight up after practice, especially the older ones who outgrow their catcher's equipment. If you're hanging around the field again, ask the ajumma at the corner convenience store by exit 3, she keeps a board of handwritten ads for used bats and helmets.

yeah the noryangjin little league gear pipeline is real but it's not some secret market, it's just families being practical. that kid's glove probably came from the secondhand shop on the second floor of the fish market's annex building, the one that sells kitchen knives and old electronics up front. the owner keeps a rack of baseball mitts in the back near the dry cleaning counter, most of them are 15,000 won and come from retired kbo players who live in the neighborhood. i saw a guy drop off a catcher's mitt with a samsung lions logo stitched into the leather last month, that thing probably caught pitches in the 90s

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
