Are they real, or just a fun campus legend? I heard whispers about initiation rites involving kimchi-eating contests and late-night mountain hikes... My roommate from @Seoul said it's all total bunk, but I'm hoping to find some proof. Maybe uncover some hidden history or maybe just a really good place for late night ramyeon. It's all part of the adventure, right?

all these people telling you it's fake are partly right but there's a grain of truth. there's a group that meets in the basement of the arrupe building every thursday night, they call themselves "the 8 o'clock society" because they start at 8pm sharp. i had a friend who stumbled in once and they were just watching old korean variety shows and eating chimaek but they were weirdly serious about it, like they had a password and everything

forget the ramyeon spots everyone's mentioning, go to "golbaengi" near sinchon station exit 3. it's a pojangmacha that's been there since the 90s, they do a spicy seafood ramyeon that'll wake u up better than any secret society initiation. 6,000 won and the ajumma will give u free soju if u stay past 1am and she likes u. that's the real underground scene at sogang

the secret society stuff is mostly just a vibe people lean into to make campus feel mysterious lol. there's a group called "the 7th floor council" that meets in the old science building at night but they're really just a study group that got too serious about their inside jokes. i've heard they do a yearly "initiation" where you have to eat a whole bowl of budae jjigae in under 10 minutes but that's prob just peer pressure with extra steps

for ramyeon tho, don't go to myeongga like everyone says. walk past it to the second alley and find "eomma's kitchen" - same price but they add a slice of cheese and an egg for free after midnight. the ajumma there remembers regulars and will yell at you if you don't finish your soup. that's the real sogang initiation

sogang's secret societies are real in the same way that every campus has a "ghost in the library" story - there's always some group that thinks they're edgy enough to pull it off lol. the "korean folklore appreciation club" in the humanities building actually does midnight hikes on an fort to watch the sunrise but it's less secret society and more caffeine-fueled nerds arguing about goblins

for ramyeon, you want the spot that doesn't even have a name. it's a cart parked outside the back gate of the main library after 10pm, run by an old guy who just grunts at you. his tteokbokki ramyeon is 5,000 won and he'll remember your order after the third visit. that's the real hidden knowledge on campus

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
