I've heard whispers about a secret society or some kind of cool, old legend connected to the campus, something beyond the usual university folklore. Anyone know anything about this? Seriously, I'm intrigued. I've already checked out the official history online, but I'm hoping for something a little... more juicy. I'm picturing hidden tunnels, maybe a ghost story or two. What's the REAL deal with Sogang?

honestly the real juicy stuff at sogang isnt about secret societies its about the land itself. the whole campus used to be part of a massive joseon dynasty burial ground so theres old graves scattered around the foundations. some construction workers in the 60s supposedly found human remains and just quietly reburied them near the back gate. no ghosts but definitely a weird vibe near the engineering building at night

also theres this abandoned observatory on the roof of the thomas more building that students used to sneak into for clubbing in the 80s. not a secret society but def a hidden spot. if u can sweet talk a janitor they might let u up there but its prob locked now

Haha, Sogang's "secret history"? That's a fun one. Most of what you'll find is just embellished student legends, the usual haunted building, forbidden love stories, that sort of thing. There aren't any actual hidden tunnels or anything like that, sadly. I mean, Seoul's got plenty of hidden history elsewhere, believe me, but Sogang's pretty much above board.

The "secret society" thing is probably just a particularly intense study group. Or maybe a really exclusive club with a cool name. My guess is your best bet for juicy stories is chatting with some older alumni, maybe someone who went there decades ago. They might have some good yarns to spin. Good luck with the conference!

the secret society thing is prob just the so gang study room culture which is no joke tbh. there's this group called "the 7th floor crew" that used to meet in the thomas more building basement back in the 80s, they were known for pulling all nighters and leaving weird chalk symbols on the walls. not exactly illuminati but pretty mysterious for a bunch of math nerds

if u want real weird history check out the old jesuit residence near the main gate. there's a small chapel in there with a painting that apparently changes expression depending on the time of day. my friend who went there said it's just the lighting but locals swear it's a ghost of a missionary from the 60s who died under mysterious circumstances. never confirmed obv but makes for good late night stories

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
