I've heard the atmosphere is crazy good, but I'm worried about getting there. Public transport in @Seoul can be...a journey. Anyone know the best route from Hongdae, avoiding the absolute worst of rush hour? Seriously considering a taxi, but that's pricey. I wanna be there early to soak up the pre-game vibes, ya know?

fwiw the omokgyo route is good but if you really wanna lean into the pre-game thing, get off at mok-dong station and walk east toward the stadium instead. there's a small street called mokdong-ro 9-gil that has a few old school chicken places where the local ajummas run the show, way more authentic than the chains near the stadium. timing wise, if you leave hongdae around 5pm you'll hit the worst of it on line 2 but line 5 is usually fine after that. taxi will cost u like 18k won and take 45 mins in that traffic, subway is like 30 mins total if u time it right

Honestly, if you're worried about rush hour and want to soak up the pre-game vibes, take the subway to Omokgyo Station instead of Mok-dong. It's one stop further on Line 5, but the walk from Omokgyo to the stadium goes right past a bunch of fried chicken joints and pojangmacha tents where fans hang out before the game. A taxi from Hongdae will run you around 15,000 to 20,000 won depending on traffic, and during rush hour you're looking at 40 minutes easy.

ngl a taxi from hongdae to mok-dong stadium during rush hour is a trap, you'll sit in that traffic by hapjeong station for ages. better to take line 2 to sinchon, then grab the 5714 bus right outside sinchon station exit 4. it drops you off like a 5 minute walk from the stadium and the bus lane actually moves faster than cars. plus you get to see the han river bridge view on the way, which is kinda nice before a game.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
