We've played at a few different pitches in Seoul before, but this one always seems eerily quiet when we drive past. It's always empty, even on weekends. Is it haunted...or just really, really unpopular?! Seriously though, any locals know why it's so deserted? Maybe there's a crazy story behind it? I'm kinda hoping for some ghost stories, to be honest. Would make for a fun game if we bumped into a few... spectral opponents.

fair warning, that field is basically a wind tunnel coming off the river, especially in the afternoon. I've seen balls curve mid-air like they've got a mind of their own, which could be your ghost story if you're superstitious. if you want a proper game with some atmosphere, head to the Ttukseom Hangang Park pitches instead, they've got better drainage and actual markings that haven't faded into abstract art. that ichonjigu spot is just a concrete slab with grass vibes, nobody's dying to play there when there's a dozen nicer options within a 15-minute subway ride.

I've lived in Ichon-dong for a few years and that field's always been a ghost town. Part of it is timing - most local leagues book the better-maintained fields at the main Hangang Park near Dongjak Bridge, which has proper floodlights and a parking lot. The Ichonjigu spot is more of an afterthought, left over from when they redeveloped the area after the 88 Olympics. If you want a real mystery, check out the abandoned railroad bridge just north of there at night. It's not haunted either, just rusted shut, but the graffiti is worth the walk.

not haunted, just a victim of the ichon redevelopment plans that never fully materialized. that whole strip was supposed to get a big sports complex with a proper stadium but the funding fell through around 2010, so they just threw down a field and called it a day. the real ghost story is the abandoned gwangjang market arcade a 10-minute walk east, empty storefronts and faded signs from the 90s, way creepier than a dusty pitch

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
