But getting down in the dark was a different story. Those paths are kinda treacherous without proper lighting. I almost twisted my ankle a couple times! So, my question is: are there better-lit trails for nighttime hikers, or should I stick to daytime visits?

I'd take the bus down instead of messing with the trails. The yellow Namsan 02 and 05 buses run from near the tower down to Myeongdong and Chungmuro stations until around 11:30 PM, cost 1,200 won with a T-money card, and you can still soak in the night views through the window. The trail down past the Namsan Public Library is actually well lit if you really want to walk, but that concrete path is a solid 20 minutes longer than the forest shortcuts and has zero charm.

check the cable car schedule before you go, it stops around 11pm and the last one down is usually packed. otherwise the path along the main road past the Namsan Olleumi parking lot is lit fine, it's just a boring concrete walk. i'd rather do sunset and skip the dark hike back, the bugs get annoying after dusk anyway

fwiw the paved road up from the Myeongdong side is way better lit than the forest trails. it's longer and less scenic but you won't roll an ankle. the Nambu Bus stop near the top also has taxis waiting pretty late on weekends if you don't wanna walk down at all

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
