National Mourning in South Korea
The mourning period is mostly about toning down public events and media, not shutting down the city. You will see flags at half-staff and some entertainment venues like noraebang or clubs might close early, but the subway, convenience stores, and most restaurants in Jongno or Hongdae will run as usual. My advice is to keep your plans and treat it like a normal visit where people are a bit more reserved, you will still get to see the sights and eat well. If you had tickets to a baseball game or a K-pop show, check with the venue because those are the things that get postponed.
just keep your plans, honestly. the mourning is more about public broadcasters playing sad music and flags being half-staff than anything that'll affect your trip. I was in gangnam during the itaewon period last year and the main difference was no street performances and convenience stores stopped selling soju after 10pm. the subway runs fine, gyeongbokgung will let you in, and the kbbq places in mapo won't skip a beat. if you had a club reservation cancel it but otherwise you're good
you'll be fine, just expect things to feel a bit quieter than usual. namsan tower and gyeongbokgung will still be open but maybe no night illuminations or loud music. if you were planning on clubs in hongdae or itaewon, those will prob be closed or have weird hours, but cafes and restaurants in myeongdong should be operating normally. I wouldn't cancel unless you were specifically coming for a festival or concert that got axed

Wildlife Reserve near Seoul: best time to visit in 2026?
late october is the sweet spot, the rut's on and the elk are loud enough to hear from the trailhead. weekdays after 3pm are dead quiet too if u can swing it.

yeah late oct is when the bulls actually start bugling proper, not just the odd practice call in sept. one thing though, the west ridge trail gets muddy after rain so wear boots you dont mind wrecking. u going weekday or weekend?

early mornings still win, gates open 6:30 and the deer are out before the buses arrive. shuttle from the station runs weekends but only every 40 min now, so check the board when u get there. bring binoculars, the rental ones are beat.

The 6:30 gate matters less than the ticket queue, buy online the night before or you'll lose that window.
Honestly the shuttle's pointless on weekends, take bus 9701 from Yangjae and walk in through the west gate instead.
