honestly for nye in gangnam, octagon is the obvious one but it gets so packed it's not even fun. i'd check out mass or answer instead, they're a bit more chill with the bottle service crowd but still have that upscale vibe. expect covers around 100k won and up, bring cash cause some places get weird with cards at midnight

hongdae is a mess on nye, like fun mess but if u want actual dancing at a club go to nb2 or the henz club, just get there before 10pm or you'll be in line for hours. itaewon's prob the most chaotic, soho and shannon's are decent but honestly i'd pick one area and stick to it, bouncing between them will take forever with the crowds

since everyone's talking clubs, let me throw out the opposite move. the party at seoul plaza by city hall is actually legit if you want something big but not a club. they do a countdown with a giant LED screen and street food vendors setup everywhere, plus you can see the namsan tower from there. way more room to breathe than jongno but same free vibe

if you're set on a club though, skip the main hongdae strip and hit up the basement spots around sangsu. there's this place called strange fruit that does a nye party with live sets before midnight then switches to a djs, covers are like 30k and the crowd is actually there to dance not just flex. just bring cash and get there before 11 or the line gets dumb

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
