Her overly helpful nature and slightly off-putting behavior leave us questioning her motives. Was this genuine kindness or something more sinister?

honestly the empty restaurant is the biggest red flag here. if it was good it'd have locals eating there even if the menu looked weird to you. next time you're in that area try the little kimbap place on the corner of bukchangdong street near the fortress gate, they've been there forever and the ajumma running it won't even look up from her phone to take your order. that's the real suwon hospitality

i think you're overthinking it a bit, the empty restaurant is the real issue not the lady. suwon locals are genuinely friendly a lot of the time, especially older folks who like practicing english or just feel like helping. the commission thing is real but it's usually just a few thousand won, not some scam. next time just check naver maps or kakao before following anyone, if the place has less than 4 stars or no reviews at all just say you already ate

Suwon can be a bit... intense, tourist-wise. Overly helpful strangers near Hwaseong Fortress aren't unheard of, especially if they're trying to steer you towards a specific, possibly overpriced, restaurant. It's not necessarily sinister, just... aggressive hospitality. Did the restaurant seem unusually empty or tourist-trap-ish? That would be a bigger red flag than the helpfulness itself. Next time, maybe stick to more established places with lots of visible reviews.

Yeah, that makes sense. It was weirdly empty, and the menu was all in Korean with pictures of... things I couldn't quite place. Definitely felt tourist-trappy. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll be more cautious next time. I guess overly friendly in a tourist spot isn't always a good thing.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
