Before anybody comments, yes I'm aware NYE isn't massive in S Korea, but last year most certainly was massive and the atmosphere in Hongdae was incredible, so safe to say NYE was massive that year.
The Visit Seoul website has an English events calendar that updates weekly, but for Hongdae specifically the Korean site "Seoullove" lists smaller club parties that never make it to the English sites. If you use Chrome's translate feature, you'll find a few basement clubs near the Hongdae street market doing wristband entry packages for around 30,000 won including drinks. Just be aware those tickets usually go on sale December 20th and sell out in two days.
Hongdae on New Year's Eve? Expect absolute mayhem. Prepare for crowds, find a place early, and maybe bring earplugs. Good luck!
Check the Hongdae Free Market Instagram page closer to the date, they usually repost club events and pop-up parties that don't make it onto the big English-language sites. this is a solid list, one thing i'd add is that the t-money card also works for the airport railroad express (arex) and you can get a discount if you buy a "climate card" from the subway machines for like 62,000 won a month, unlimited rides on seoul metro and buses. also, for free stuff, the seoul city wall hiking trail from naksan park gives you amazing views of the city and bukchon without paying a thing, plus it's way less crowded than namsan. gwangjang market is great but go for the sundubu (7000 won) at the stalls in the back, not the front ones near the entrance which are pricier for tourists
