Hi everyone, I'm currently in Seoul and will be here for another three weeks. I'm looking for recommendations for a good men's or unisex barber shop.

I'd love to try a Korean hairstyle but I'm not sure which one would suit me, so it'd be great if the barber could offer suggestions. Just to note, I'm only planning to get a haircut and won't be dyeing my hair.

I'm fine with any price range as long as it's not too expensive, and it'd be ideal if the barber can communicate in English.

Thank you so much in advance!

if you're in the Jongno area, try Salon de Hwayoung near Anguk station. the stylist there is really good at figuring out what works with your hair texture, not just throwing a trendy cut at you. they speak english well enough to talk through options and it's around 30,000 won for a cut. just call ahead to book since they're small and walk-ins can be tough

honestly just walk into any random place in Itaewon, loads of barbers there are used to foreigners and speak enough english to figure out a cut. i went to one called Black Barbershop near the Hamilton Hotel and the guy just asked me what i wanted, showed me some pics on his phone, and it turned out fine. cost like 20,000 won

Headmaster in Hongdae is a solid choice for what you're after. The stylists there are used to working with foreigners and can walk you through what cut would actually work with your face shape, not just what's trendy. It's around 25,000 to 35,000 won for a men's cut, which is reasonable for the area.

If you're near Gangnam, Soonsiki is another good option. They speak English and specialize in the kind of textured, natural Korean styles that look good on most guys. Just make sure to book ahead online because they fill up fast, especially on weekends.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
