HUFS or PNU?

I'm going to study in Korea for the Spring semester and I've been accepted at SKKU, HUFS and PNU. Since I have to pay the tuition fees, I decided to eliminate SKKU as it would be way more expensive than if I choose Hankuk University of Foreign Studies or Pusan National University. I'm wondering which uni would be the best option for someone who really want to enjoy Korea as a student. I like to hang out and want to experience the korean nightlife as well as the campus life (which is said to be great).

I have to make a choice between staying in Seoul or Busan. I know that Seoul is a bigger and more vibrant city but the HUFS campus is relatively small. For Busan, it is a big city as well but nowhere near Seoul, the PNU campus is said to be way bigger than the HUFS one, and it is also cheaper than HUFS.

I actually already went to Korea in May, and I really want to make sure this experience is going to be a bit different for me

one thing nobody mentioned: check which HUFS campus your acceptance is actually for. if it says Global Campus in Yongin, that's not Seoul at all, it's a hour bus ride each way and the last bus back is around 11pm so your nightlife becomes a logistics problem. Seoul Campus in Dongdaemun is fine but yeah it's small.

for the "different experience" angle, PNU honestly wins. Seomyeon is a 10 min walk from campus, rents in the area are like 400 to 500k won for a decent one room vs 600+ in Seoul, and Busan has stuff Seoul doesn't, like gwangalli on a random tuesday or day trips to gyeongju. down side is if you already did the Seoul thing in May, you kinda know what you're getting there.

Worth knowing that HUFS splits its foreign students across two campuses. The Seoul one in Dongdaemun is mostly for the language programs and some humanities, but a lot of the actual exchange students end up at the Global Campus out in Yongin, which is a good hour from central Seoul by bus. If your acceptance letter says Global, the whole "20 minutes to Hongdae" pitch falls apart and you're basically in the suburbs. PNU keeps everything on one proper campus right next to Seomyeon, so you'd walk out your dorm into the actual city. For a semester where you want a genuine student scene and your money to go further, that setup is hard to beat.

I'd lean PNU if you actually want a different experience from your last trip. HUFS is basically a commuter school in the middle of Seoul, so your social life ends up being "go out in Hongdae" rather than real campus stuff, and that's the same Seoul routine you already did in May. Busan gives you a proper campus culture plus beach weekends and a much cheaper monthly budget, which stretches a semester way further.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
