Japanese Skin Care in Seoul?

Another option is the Mitsukoshi-style shop inside Shinsegae Department Store in Gangnam, they have a proper Japanese beauty counter on the basement level with brands like SK-II and Albion. It's pricier than drugstore finds, but if you want the authentic department store experience with testers and staff who actually know the products, that's the place. For smaller stuff, the underground shops near Euljiro 3-ga station stock random Japanese imports, though the stock rotates fast and it's hit or miss.

You'll find Japanese beauty products at Olive Young in Myeongdong, they have a whole section near the main entrance. Daiso also carries some Japanese brands like Shiseido and Kose at much lower prices, just check the labels since some are Korean-made versions. If you want the full selection, head to Lotte Department Store in Jamsil where they have a dedicated Japanese cosmetics corner on the first floor.

Cheapest route is actually just hopping on the subway to Yongsan, the I'Park Mall basement has a few import stalls that fly under the radar, mostly smaller brands like Sana and Rosette. If you want the big names like SK-II or Albion, the duty free at Lotte in Myeongdong has a Japanese corner that's usually less crowded than the department store floors, and you can test everything without a salesperson hovering. One thing nobody mentions: the Japanese products sold here are often the international versions, so check the back for the manufacturing code if you care about that, the Korean-market ones sometimes have different preservatives. For a quick fix, the Don Quijote in Hongdae opened a couple years ago and they restock their skincare wall every Friday, so it's worth timing your visit.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
