Any recommendations for a month-long stay in Seoul?

I'm currently searching for accommodation and would prefer somewhere quieter than the bustling city center but still convenient for sightseeing.

My budget is pretty tight, so hotels are out of the question, and I'm finding it a bit tricky to search since my Korean isn't great.

Does anyone have any experiences staying in Seoul or any good places to recommend?

honestly for a month on a tight budget look into jjimjilbangs, theyre 24hr bathhouses where you can sleep in the common areas for like 10,000 won a night. not the quietest but you can find ones in residential areas like around mokdong or gwangjang, way calmer than hongdae. just grab a locker and crash on the heated floors, gets you a free sauna too. just be aware you'll have to pack light and leave your stuff during the day

Goshiwons are a solid option but the walls are paper thin. If you need some space to yourself and want to actually cook, look into a hasukjip instead. They're boarding houses with a shared kitchen and usually include breakfast and dinner in the monthly rate, which helps a ton with the budget. Try searching for places around Sinsa or near Seoul National University station, both are quiet residential pockets with decent access to the rest of the city via line 2 or the bus system.

For a quiet month in Seoul on a budget, try looking at goshiwons in areas like Gongdeok or Sangsu. They're tiny but super cheap and close enough to the subway that you can get anywhere in 20 minutes.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
