Rally today?

Hi can anyone tell me what the large groups of people dressed in white shirts along the main road in Hongdae was for? Yeah both of those are pretty standard weekend fare in Seoul. The white shirts in Hongdae are the veterans association, they walk from Hongdae Station toward the War Memorial sometimes but usually just loop around Sangsu. The Myeongdong one was likely at Seoul Plaza, which is actually closer to City Hall Station than Myeongdong Station itself. If you walk through the underground shopping center at Euljiro 1(il)-ga you can avoid the crowds entirely and pop up right by the plaza.

The white shirts in Hongdae were definitely the Korea Veterans Association. They march from Hongdae Station exit 9 toward Hapjeong on the last Saturday of most months. The Myeongdong one was probably a separate labor protest near Seoul Plaza, which is a 5 minute walk from the Myeongdong shopping street. If you're around on weekends, you'll see these regularly.

ah the white shirts in hongdae were probably the korean veterans association thing they do monthly marches near hongdae entrance, usually around 2pm on saturdays. the myeongdong park rally was likely a workers' rights protest at seoul plaza or city hall station area, those happen pretty often on weekends. police presence is normal for those, they just block off a few streets and it wraps up by evening

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
