forced to get beer to dine in at BBQ chicken??

My friend and I went to BBQ Chicken in Dongdaemun. When wanted chicken only but when we ordered, the lady told us that if we want to dine in, we have to get a beer as well. If we get chicken only, we would have to take it to-go. So we ordered a beer to dine in. Is this common? Or did we get pressured into ordering a beer?

Yeah that's pretty common at BBQ Chicken specifically. They have this policy at a lot of their locations where dine-in customers are expected to order alcohol, it's not just you getting pressured. It's a chicken and beer franchise (치맥) so they really push the beer pairing for dine-in. If you want just chicken without the drink commitment, try a place like Kyochon or BHC instead, they're more relaxed about it.

It's not just BBQ Chicken, honestly. A lot of the fried chicken chains in Korea, especially around Dongdaemun where the tourist traffic is high, have this rule to keep tables turning and boost alcohol sales. If you want to avoid it next time, try a small local place called "치킨마을" (Chicken Village) near Euljiro 4-ga station, they don't care what you order and the portions are bigger for the same price.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
