I'm looking for places to "honbap" or eat alone in the Gangnam seocho area.
It's my first time in Korea in 20 years and I'm here alone until my friends arrive from Canada. Although I can speak the language fluently I guess I'm still a little nervous to go out by myself since I have zero familiarity with the country... but I don't want to let that stop me from reconnecting with the country I was born in.
I'm trying to ease off my anxiety/nervousness slowly lol so any recommendations for solo travelers to eat alone would be greatly appreciated!

honestly just hit up any hoetjip in the nonhyeon area near hakdong station, they have those little set menus for one person and the ajussis running them usually don't bother you much. if you're feeling adventurous, the basement food court at coex mall is huge and you can just grab a tray and sit anywhere, nobody cares. also the little kalguksu places in the alleys near yeoksam station exit 7 are perfect for solo, like 7,000 won and you're in and out in 20 minutes. korea's pretty
seocho-gu is honestly easier for solo eating than gangnam proper tbh. head to the kyobo tower basement food court near express bus terminal station, it's got that old school korean department store vibe with individual seats at a bunch of stalls. the dwaeji gukbap place there is solid, like 9,000 won and they don't look twice at a solo diner. also the little alley behind seocho station exit 5 has a ton of tiny kimbap and sundae shops where they expect you to eat alone during lunch rush. if you want something more sit-down but still solo friendly, try myeongwolgwan on seocho-daero for naengmyeon, they have counter seating and the ajummas there are super efficient
gangnam station area has tons of spots honestly. there's a place called kim's deokbokki in a side alley near exit 6 that's perfect for one person, they do those little individual hot pots and it's cheap like 8,000 won. also the food court in the express bus terminal underground mall is great for solo eating, lots of stalls and no one cares if you're alone. if you want something more sit-down, try yeongdong pocha near seolleung station, it's a bit of a walk but they have solo bar seating and the boss is super friendly with foreigners. honestly most places in seocho are used to solo diners during lunch rush so you'll be fine

this is a solid list, one thing i'd add is that the t-money card also works for the airport railroad express (arex) and you can get a discount if you buy a "climate card" from the subway machines for like 62,000 won a month, unlimited rides on seoul metro and buses. also, for free stuff, the seoul city wall hiking trail from naksan park gives you amazing views of the city and bukchon without paying a thing, plus it's way less crowded than namsan. gwangjang market is great but go for the sundubu (7000 won) at the stalls in the back, not the front ones near the entrance which are pricier for tourists
honestly the guide nails it, one thing i'd add is that the t-money card deposit is refundable at any convenience store when you leave, most people forget and just toss it. also for free stuff, the seoul philharmonic does free outdoor concerts at seoul plaza in spring and fall, just show up with a blanket. if you're near hongdae on a friday night, the playground area has buskers that are genuinely talented, way better than the overhyped clubs
